All the children attended November 1st All Saints Day Mass at the start of the month. Father Felix was our celebrant, and he had us all sing “When the Saints Come Marching In”.
Our students went to see The Django Festival All-Stars. This group brings music of the legendary Gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt (1910-1953) fully into the 21st century. This internationally renowned group prominently features one of Europe’s greatest musical families-guitarist Dorado Schmitt, and his two sons. In recent years, the Django Festival All-Stars have played top venues around the world, including the Kennedy Center, the Newport Jazz Festival, and the Montreal Jazz Festival, to name just a few.
The children had a wonderful time. “It was the BEST that we’ve ever been to-thanks!” They are MUSIC SMART.
Fifth and Sixth grade students from St. Augustine School participated in a lecture given by Mr. William McMillin Jr., professional engineer from ch2m on engineering and water drainage. All the children completed a project on water drainage, and many of them now want to be engineers. Our guest speaker is all part of the active STEM curriculum that St. Augustine School uses.
Our cooking club is still going strong. Mrs. Franco and Sr. Genny cook every Monday after school with our “Cooking Club”. This week made and ate delicious French Toast! Let’s Eat!
The Cardinal and the Inner City Scholarship Fund came to Saint Augustine School on December 7th. Many of our students benefit from scholarship money raised by the program. A panel of our students asked the cardinal questions. There were speeches and entertainment by the children. Everyone enjoyed the Scholarship breakfast.
