Pre-School – Ages 3 and 4 have a separate academic curriculum. The head teacher designs the curriculum and supervises the many Teacher Aides that are part of the Pre-School program. The Pre-School curriculum consists of Bible Stories, prayers, learning letters and sounds, reading, learning numbers, Science, Social Studies, Art, Music, Computers and Gym.
Kindergarten – study about family life, prayers and the church in Religion class. There is an emphasis on reading skills, phonics and spelling along with Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Music and Art are part of their classes.
Grade One – studies Reading, Mathematics, Religion which includes the study of the seasons of the church, Writing, Science, for example, Matter ( Solids, Liquid, and Gas), Recycling and Social Studies with an emphasis on Community helpers.
Grade Two – The emphasis in Religion classes is a preparation for First Communion and First Penance, Mathematics – Geometry, and higher level Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication, Reading, Science and Social Studies with a study of the History of Communication.
Grade Three – major project is Class Dojo – A safe and simple communication app for teachers and parents, thus, the site encourages students in any skill to work hard and to try their best. It also allows the teacher to bring the parents into the class room experience by sharing photos, videos and announcements. They study the traditional subjects.
Grade Four – teaches Religion, Language which is used as a tool for expression in exchanging ideas and for communication (verbally and written), and Social Studies which primarily studies New Jersey. The Homeroom teacher teaches Language Arts to Grades 4, 5, and 6.
Grade Five – teaches Religion, Reading which includes a study of the classics, and Social Studies. The Homeroom teacher teaches Mathematics to Grades 4, 5, and 6.
Grade Six – teaches Religion, Reading and Social Studies and is the Science teacher for Grades 4, 5 and 6 and is in charge of the STEM program for those grades and also participated in the School STEM Fair, Hudson County STEM Fair and the Archdiocesan STEM Fair.
Grade Seven – the Homeroom teacher is in charge of the STEM program for the Junior High. A stem Science Fair was held at the school, The students participated in the Hudson County STEM Fair and the Archdiocesan STEM Expo.
Grade Eight – The Homeroom teacher teaches Social Studies to the Junior High. She uses the Smart Board to show stories and information about the time of history the students are studying. She also teaches Religion, Mathematics and Reading.
The lower grades work on many projects. In the spring, they work on April showers and demonstrate warm and cool weather. Different animals and flowers are also incorporated.
The upper grades do many projects. Their spring one will be on individual canvases. Included will be the silhouettes of birds, owls and lady bugs on different backgrounds.
All grades go to the Library weekly. PreK, K and 1 are read to. Sometimes they see story DVD’s, also.
Grades 4-8 pick out books to read and return them the following week.
In general, PreK participates in Gross Motor skills: running, jumping, dancing and aerobics. From Kinder to Grade 8, the children participate in: basketball, soccer, football, softball, aerobics, and exercise.
Computer skills are taught from PreK to Grade 8. Included are:
- typing stories on Word Documents
- creative word art
- Keyboard: letter, number recognition
- mouse navigatioon
- text, fonts, colors, borders, print functions
- holiday typing activities
- speed and accuracy
- following directions
- power point slides
- creating brochures
- Internet navigation: copying images from Google, research papers
Spanish is taught from Grades PK to Grade 8. They learn to talk in Spanish, including: the months of the year, prayers , and information about their families.
